Chevrolet was founded in 1911 by Louis Chevrolet, a race car driver, along with William C. Durant who was the founder of General Motors
In 1911 Chevrolet introduced the Classic Six to compete with Ford, and four years later expanded its production to Canada. But these factories were bought by GM later.
The following year Chevy had already earning so much that made possible the William Durant to buy a majority stake in General Motors. With that William caused the Chevrolet to integrate GM as an autonomous division.
In 1995 Chevy starts to produce cars with V8 engines, which had an stunning performance for this time. This was winning the U.S. market. In ten cars purchased in the United States, one is a Chevrolet. This success was not the same in Europe. Even with the production of Daewoo, which not very successful.
